MS in Kinesiology

Mission
Our mission in the Master of Science in Kinesiology program is to shape difference makers who care for the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—through the promotion of scholarship and professional practice in kinesiology. Grounded in a Christian worldview, the program emphasizes the role of physical activity in improving health, fitness, and quality of life across the lifespan.
The program involves advanced study in the scientific, educational, and professional dimensions of human movement, exercise, and sport. Through rigorous academic coursework and applied learning experiences, students develop the knowledge and skills to assess, design, and implement programs, as well as to lead, teach, and manage within diverse kinesiology settings. The curriculum prepares students for careers in fitness, health care, sport performance, coaching, athletic administration, and education.
To help students achieve their academic and professional goals, the program offers two concentrations:
Sport and Physical Education
This concentration prepares professionals for leadership roles in athletics, education, and administration across K-12, collegiate, and community sport settings. Students engage with topics such as organizational leadership, curriculum design, facility and event management, ethics, sport psychology, sports medicine, and physical conditioning. This concentration is ideal for students seeking to advance in leadership, administrative, teaching, and coaching roles within educational, athletic, and sport management settings.
Designed for working professionals and career-minded graduates, the program is delivered asynchronously online and culminates in a capstone experience that allows students to integrate advanced academic learning with practical application.
Exercise Science
This concentration provides advanced training in the physiological and biomechanical foundations of human movement, exercise, and health. Students engage with topics such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports nutrition, and strength and conditioning, emphasizing the application of scientific principles to performance and health outcomes. This concentration is ideal for students pursuing careers in applied exercise science, strength and conditioning, and health and fitness, as well as those preparing for doctoral study in related fields.
Delivered in a hybrid format, the program combines the flexibility of asynchronous online coursework with in-person, hands-on laboratory experiences in advanced courses. Students develop applied skills in exercise assessment and program design while becoming proficient in research methodology and scientific writing.
Requirements
Graduate kinesiology students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B) or better, and may not earn lower than a 2.7 (B-) in any course. Students who earn below a 2.7 (B-) in a course must retake the course and achieve the minimum GPA requirement.
